POSITION TITLE: Subject Teacher 

REPORTS TO: Team Leader and Assistant Principal

Job Overview

To teach and educate students according to guidelines provided by the school administration under the overall guidance of the competent education authority. To teach and educate students according to the educational needs, abilities and attainment potential of individual students entrusted to his/her care by the head of school and Head of Department.

Responsibilities and Duties

The following tasks and duties may not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to all students in the class.
  • Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities, and achievement of the individual students and groups of students.
  • Adopting and working towards the implementation of the school development plan.
  • Assigning work, correcting, and marking work carried out by his/her students.
  • Assessing, recording, and reporting on the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of one’s students.
  • Providing guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers; providing information on sources of more expert advice.
  • Communicating, consulting, and co-operating with other members of the school staff, including those having posts of special responsibility and parents/guardians to ensure the best interest of students.
  • Reviewing and evaluating one’s own teaching and learning strategies, methodologies, and programs. 
  • Advising and co-operating with the Head of School, Assistant Head, Heads of Department, Education Officers, and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programs, methods of teaching and assessment, and pastoral care arrangements. 
  • Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of the subject/s. Through effective dialogue, participating in reciprocal peer review and observation of class teaching practice by the Head of Department (subject/level) concerned.
  • Participating in In-Service education and training courses as well as in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities, and taking part in action research exercises.
  • Participating in staff, group, or other meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care arrangements.
  • Contributing to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers according to arrangements agreed with the Head of Department and Academic Coordinator.
  • Ensuring the safe custody and optimum use of equipment normally used by oneself during lessons and sees to its regular servicing and maintenance.
  • Participating in school assemblies.
  • Registering and monitoring the attendance of students under one’s care.
  • Ensuring that schemes and forecast of work carried out in class are handed to the HOD in good time so that the necessary adaptations and resources are made for use with students with individual educational needs in class.
  • Making use of technological devices/aides (such as smartboards, computers, iPads, projectors) during the delivery of the lessons.
  • Encouraging participation in national and international events, projects in accordance with the Academic Coordinator and HOD.
  • Giving regular feedback to learners, parents, school administration, and grades students on their assessment tasks on Jupiter.
  • Sending the educational materials such as homework, worksheets, projects, rubrics, links, apps through emailing and Jupiter messages.
  • Contributing to academic preparations such as curriculum designing, syllabus, scope & sequence in coordination with the Academic Coordinator and Head of Department.
  • Supervising students and classes during the trimester exams and gives feedback to the associated assistant principal in cases of disruptions or any kind of troubles.
  • Advocating for and working as homeroom teacher or class advisor in one of the classes assigned by the school administration, counseling his/her students on their personal or emotional problems.
  • Regularly attending in Thursday workshops and meetings to develop the way he/she teaches, to complete weekly tasks assigned by the academic department. 
  • Effectively embedding new techniques and strategies into the teaching process such as using assisting tools of technology, being flexible in instructions, applying updated methods.
  • Demonstrating preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Encouraging parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails. 

Qualifications and skills

List of the qualifications that are necessary for someone to fill this position.

  • B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching. 
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis. 
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology. 
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
